With a myriad of building products to choose from what is the right choice for you to put on your home in Chester, NJ? Is it vinyl, wood, composite, masonry, or fiber cement?  There are pros and cons to all so let’s take a closer look. Most of the original homes erected in Chester over a century ago were primarily wood framed with some use of masonry, most locally quarried stone.  Since the advent of alternative claddings, the goal has always been to emulate wood as close as possible. Aluminum siding, which has long since been discarded as an alternative was the first to imitate lap or plank style siding. Next came vinyl along with other derivatives of polyvinyl chloride, (PVC), which is still widely used, however today many people are trending away from such materials, mainly because they lack authenticity and have been proven to be a known carcinogenic.

James Hardie® Fiber Cement Siding is comprised of sand, wood and cement.  It has the look and feel of wood and comes in various profiles such as lap/plank siding, shakes, and vertical board and batten. Like wood it installs much the same way as opposed to vinyl which often is installed over the existing siding, thus masking any structural issue instead of correcting them.
